Always Careful.

It's been some time since I've written about thoughts and life in general. Here's a write-up about staying within the boundaries or crossing them.

There are millions of people. Yet, no one person is like the other. Some qualities here and there are similar, but it's impossible to find a person with the exact same likings, dislikes or hobbies. Even twins have different approaches of thinking. Then, how can we expect two strangers to have the same thinking? Some people always think twice before doing anything; even if it's about choosing the correct notebooks for college. And they think from all the angles when it's about major decisions in life. They plan everything; right from the morning newspaper reading time to the fixed sleeping time at night. I know a quote from Grey's Anatomy, "You can waste your life drawing lines or you can live your life crossing them."
I know people who keep drawing lines and staying within the fence they create for themselves. After a period of time, they get depressed and frustrated. I know people who cross the boundaries and enjoy their life. After a while, they are left with regrets and hurt. I think that one cannot live their life entirely on just one side of the fence. It's impossible to always be careful or always be careless. That line which is the fence is what we have to create to attain some sort of balance.
The first category of people are like me. So I understand how it feels. They are always hidden in their shell. They don't go to parties, don't drink. They study for a definite amount of time. They work sincerely. They never break the traffic rules. They eat healthy food. They are always home before the curfew. They always submit their projects before the deadline. They decide their path of life and just stick to their straightforward thinking. They never cross the boundaries. An entire lifetime of this is definitely going to be dull. Everyone needs adventures. A little bit of adrenaline rush is what it takes to stay upbeat. Such people feel guilty if they do something adventurous. But, in fact, that should be the high point to live their life. It's okay to loosen up a little. It's all right to have some fun and dance at a club. It won't harm if you sleep an hour later than usual. It's perfectly normal to crave for junk food. It's fine if you hit the accelerator and speed up, for a change. You can do all these things once in a while. I know you have some set standards and rules. But you created them and only you can change them. Instead of always being careful, you should have a little fun too. Otherwise, what's the use of leading a disciplined life? When you're 70 and you'll feel like going on a trek but it won't be possible. So, just go out and do it right now instead of repenting later. Live your life to the fullest, do what your heart says, take your brain with you and just live.

  1. I use to have this same mentality. Straight forward, studious, extremely serious about everything. But then life and the fates decided that I needed major rocking. So they sent a hurricane to shake my home, a break up to shake my heart, and revealed friends that were really true friends. I've never been the same since then. I realized that everything in my life could disappear tomorrow and so why waste today to try to control tomorrow. I threw caution to the wind, traveled the world, and had so much fun. Life is definitely so much better when you're crossing lines.

  2. Life is definitely about balance. Living in either extreme isn't healthy. Sometimes it's great to let loose and have fun. Other times, it's appropriate to be cautious. I think when we tap into our intuitions, we can tell what the best course of action is for any given situation.

  6. I am a rebel from way back, always toeing the edge of the cliff if not crossing the line. I live a more balanced life now but still live life to the fullest

  7. I guess it all depends on WHY you are drawing the line the way you are. Is it because you enjoy it, or because of your personal standards, passions, or religious beliefs? If so, I'd say that the fence is totally great. Stay there.
But if your fence is there because of other people's (or your own) expectations for you to be a certain way, than maybe it is time to recreate that fence.
It really depends on your motives, in many ways.
